Black cab document requirements

In order to onboard as a licensed Black Cab driver on Uber, drivers must provide the documents listed below:

Personal documents:

  • Profile photo
  • DVLA plastic driving licence
  • Taxi driver licence
  • Taxi driver badge
  • Bank statement

Vehicle documents:

  • Taxi vehicle licence
  • Insurance certificate

In addition to providing the documents, drivers must also complete the mandatory safety training in the Uber app and fill out the tax profile.

Profile photo

When taking your profile photo, a camera will appear on the screen. Take a photo of yourself using the following instructions:

  • Face the camera and make sure your whole face and mouth are clearly visible
  • The photo must be taken against a solid-colour background
  • Make sure the photo is well-lit, without glare and in focus
  • Photos of a photo, filters and alterations will not be accepted
  • Do not wear your glasses, or have any props (e.g. hats or sunglasses) visible
  • Once you have pressed submit, your profile photo cannot be changed (without reaching out to Support)

DVLA plastic driving licence

Please upload your UK DVLA driving licence with the following requirements:

  • Must be a full licence and not a provisional licence
  • Must be a colour photo or a scan of the original document. Photocopies are not allowed
  • Ensure all information is readable and all corners of the document are visible
  • Your name and date of birth must match your other documents
  • Ensure your licence is valid and is the latest issued version of the document
  • Photos of a photo and blurred images will not be accepted

Taxi Driver Licence and Badge

You will be prompted to take two photos. Firstly, please upload a photo of your paper taxi driver licence. For the second photo, please upload a photo of your taxi driver badge.

  • Please ensure the colour and badge number is visible
  • Green- and yellow-coloured badges are accepted
  • All information must be readable and all four corners of the document must be visible
  • Must be a coloured photo or a scan of the original document. Photocopies are not allowed
  • Your name and date of birth must match your other documents
  • The badge number on the licence must match the one on the metal badge
  • Ensure your licence is valid and is the latest issued version of the document

Bank statement

Please upload your bank statement clearly showing your name, address, bank name, bank logo, account number and sort code.

  • All information must be readable and all four corners of the document must be visible
  • Black-and-white bank statements are also accepted
  • The document can be a photo of the original document, a screenshot from your banking apps/websites or a photocopy, PDF or a scan of the document.
  • Transaction details and account balance can be covered if you wish
  • Typed or handwritten documents are not acceptable
  • Damaged bank statements are not accepted even if the tear doesn't affect the visibility of the data points

Taxi vehicle licence

Please upload a photo of the taxi plate on the back of Black Cab with the following requirements:

  • All information must be readable and all four corners of the document must be visible
  • Blurry or images with glare images will be rejected
  • Ensure your licence is valid and is the latest issued version of the Plate
  • Ensure that the vehicle registration matches the one on your Uber profile and other documents

Insurance certificate

Please upload a photo of your insurance certificate with the following requirements:

  • All information must be readable and all four corners of the document must be visible
  • Insurance certificate must provide coverage for Hackney Carriage/Public Hire
  • Policy number, insurance issuer, insurance company, insurance start date, expiry date, limitations must be clearly visible
  • The licence plate number on the certificate must match your other documents and the one on your Uber profile
  • An expired certificate will not be accepted

Tax Profile

Please fill out your tax profile (also known as Invoice settings) in order to go online

  • Go to 'Invoice settings' in the Uber app
  • Choose if you are on boarded as an 'Individual' or a 'Legal entity'
  • Fill out all mandatory fields
  • Choose if you are VAT registered or not – if yes, you will need to provide your VAT registration number

Please note that your Tax Profile information will be shared with HMRC due to a new tax regulation regarding reporting rules for digital platforms that applies in the UK from January 2024. Uber is legally obliged to collect additional tax details and share drivers' information with HMRC, including reporting annual income. You can find more information about this regulation in the FAQ.
